Massage Therapy for the Professional:

 

100 HOURS

COURSE DESCRIPTION

 

The course Massage Therapy for the Professional meets for 20 sessions for five hours each session or 10 sessions for 10 hours each session, with a maximum of 30 hours per week.  The course includes initial One on One hands-on massage training with a knowledgeable, accredited certified licensed instructor, reading assignments from textbooks and handouts, guest speakers (when available), educational videos, training in business and record keeping, and written and practical tests.   Upon the completion and final payment of the course, the student will receive a diploma, which may be used to apply for licensure to practice massage in localities requiring and accepting a minimum of 100 hours of training.  Continued Education to complete the 500 hour program is extremely recommended and promoted. 

 

Phase I: Anatomy for the Massage Therapist                             25 hours

This phase of the course includes readings from the assigned texts and handouts, videos, and lectures from the instructor(s) and from other trained therapists and health care professionals.  This course work covers the concepts of anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, and the effect of nutrition on health.   Also covered are the subjects of cell biology, and a review of all the human organ systems, including the Muscular System, the Skeletal System, and the Circulatory System.

 

Phase II: Massage Techniques                                                     65 hours

This phase of the course includes 35 hours of education, discussion, and information about the history and theory of massage therapy including demonstrations of various massage techniques: acupressure, reflexology, joint movement, stretches, energy and body work, etc.   The student is required to perform a minimum of 30 hours of supervised hands-on practice within the classroom. These practices are referred to as Partial Massage Practicums.

In addition, the student is required to perform a minimum of 10 hours of hands-on Full Body practice massages in the classroom environment.  These practices are referred to as Full Body Massage Practicums.

 

Phase III: Professional Ethics for the Massage Therapist    10 hours 

This phase of the courses includes a discussion of ethical issues in massage.  Client issues include client and room preparation, client draping, and personal and clinical hygiene.

Upon completion of the Massage Therapy for the Professional, the student should have confidence in their general skills as a Massage Therapist.  Continued Education to complete the 500 hour program is extremely recommended and promoted.  The more knowledge you acquire, the better the massage therapist you will become!

 

The student is responsible for reading all text assignments and handouts inside or outside of the designated classroom time.   Weekly tests will be given, as well as a mid-term and final examination, which must be completed at the designated time.   Exams include multiple choice, matching, fill-in the blank, true/false, short answer, and completion of diagrams.   The courses include both written and practical applications.   There will also be opportunities available for the students to acquire extra credit points.   The students must also pass a practical test after performing a Full Body Massage on an Instructor.   The student must exhibit professional attitude and appearance during the course, and enthusiastically participate in the course.

Additional cost(s for the student:

The student is required to purchase their own massage carrier oil, which is designated for usage by the School.  No substitution oils are allowed. This oil is absolutely required for all classes.  If the student attends any class without their oil, they must purchase a new bottle.

Advanced Massage Therapy for the Professional:

 

400 HOURS

COURSE DESCRIPTION

The course Advanced Massage Therapy for the Professional meets for 80 sessions for five hours each session, not equaling more than 30 hours per week or three times a week for 10 hours each session, not equaling more than 30 hours per week. The course includes reading assignments from textbooks and handouts, hands-on massage practice, guest speakers (when available), educational videos, advanced training in business and record keeping, and written and practical tests.  The student will learn to recognize which techniques and procedures are appropriate for each client.   The student will learn to design a specific regimen of massage, aromatherapy, relaxation and acupressure to meet each client's particular needs. 

Upon the completion of the course, the student will receive a diploma, which may be used to apply for licensure to practice massage in localities requiring and accepting a minimum of 500 hours of training.

To enroll in Advanced Massage Therapy for the Professional, the student must have completed Massage Therapy for the Professional or a course, which the instructor agrees to be an equivalent course of study.

 

Phase I:  Advanced Anatomy for the Massage Therapist                           125 hours                  

This phase of the course includes readings from the assigned texts and handouts, videos, and lectures from the instructor(s) and from other trained therapists and health care professionals.  Course work covers in depth study of anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, and the effect of nutrition on health.   Also covered are the subjects of cells, tissues and human organ systems which include the Circulatory System, Endocrine System, Integumentary System, Muscular System, Nervous System, Reproductive System, Skeletal System, Urinary System, and Respiratory System.

 

Phase II:  Advanced Massage Theory and Practicum                  275 hours                 

This phase of the course includes 160 hours of education, discussion, and information about the history and theory of massage therapy including demonstrations of various massage techniques: acupressure, reflexology, joint movement, stretches, energy and body work, etc.   The student is required to perform a minimum of 120 hours of hands-on practice within the classroom setting. This phase of the courses includes a discussion of ethical issues in massage.  Client issues include client and room preparation, client draping, and personal and clinical hygiene. 

Other topics include identification and contraindications of massage, over 2 hours of prevention of Medical Errors, 10 hours of discussion of laws regarding the practice of massage therapy, massage as a business, marketing, videos, insurance information, basic first aid and CPR, and 3 hours of HIV/AIDS training.

The student will have 97 hours of Allied Modalities. The student will learn to recognize the client's stress points and problems areas and receive training with practice as to identify which form of modality would be best suited for their clients needs.  Reading assignments, videos, guest speakers (when available) and hands on work will cover many different types of modalities relating to massage.  These types of bodywork may include, but are not limited to: Alexander Technique, Chair Massage, Craniosacral Therapy, Feldenkrais, Hawaiian Massage, Infant Massage, Prenatal Massage, Hawaiian Massage, On-Site Massage, Myofascial Release, Polarity, Reflexology, Reiki, Rolfing, Shiatsu, Sports Massage, Guided Imagery, Meditation, Stone Massage, Therapeutic Touch, Relaxation techniques, Trigger Points Therapy, and more. This portion of the course also includes 15 hours of training in hydrotherapy.

The student is required to perform inside or outside the classroom:

A minimum of 190 hours of hands-on practice massages called practicums, (thirty of these practice massages will by completed on a qualified instructor).

30 book reports (books must be pre approved by the instructor).

Complete and turn in the assigned workbook. Read all assigned textbooks.

Do a study on creating a massage room. This includes research and a final report detailing itemized contents and cost of the room.  View all assigned videos.  Participate in a convention setting chair massage assignment.  Do a massage presentation before a designated group or function.  Complete Milady's Theory and Practice of Therapeutic Massage Workbook and turn in the workbook to the school office to be placed permanently in the student’s file. And, any other assignments as designated by the instructor(s).

*This cost covers the professional liability insurance cost as a “Practitioner” with ABMP, which the school will only pay upon completion and graduation from the “Advanced Massage for the Professional” course. 

**This cost covers the required textbook, required materials and fees for this course.  Any materials, textbooks or equipment which has been intentionally or unintentionally misused or mistreated by a student, will be replaced by the student, who will be required to pay the replacement cost of the item.  The student’s diploma(s) and transcript(s) will not be issued to the student until all debts and payments are completed.
